“Time spent in self- reflection is never wasted- it is an intimate date with yourself.”
As the year draws to an end, I cannot help but feel pensive and sentimental. Like a camera roll – all the memories of the passing year flashes through my mind. All the good and the bad, the highs and the lows, the gains and the losses, the growth and the setbacks, the painful moments and the rich experiences.
This happens to me every year end- the bittersweet sensation churning in my stomach saying – “this year went by too fast, my whole life will fly by too quick- and I still wouldn’t have done anything worthwhile”.
But no matter how “shitty” you think your year went by- there ARE positives you can pull out of the year. And there are those lessons you can learn from ALL of your experiences.
This time, I wanted to just focus on the positives and what I GAINED this year instead of what I lost. For even in the losses/failures- I learnt something valuable.
I have realized that the toughest thing about reflection, is being absolutely honest with yourself. Realizing what you truly want from yourself, what things you want to be changed and what you truly need from life. And realizing this and making a change can be extremely difficult, but not impossible.
Realizing your goals- writing them down- making a plan and trying to follow them day in and day out can help you grow and move towards that goal more effectively.
Meanwhile, excuse me, while I reflect and appreciate all that has passed and gather the hope and courage to welcome 2018!
“you’re so hard on yourself.
Take a moment.
Marvel at your life:
At the grief that softened you,
At the heartache that wisened you,
At the suffering that strengthened you.
Despite everything ,
You still grow,
